Trevor taxes you more to fly

Moneyweb reporter

You'll pay more to South African government for privilege of international air travel.

You will have to pay more tax to fly to international destinations from October 1 2009.

In the 2009 Budget Review, the South African National Treasury proposes increasing the international air passenger departure tax, currently at R120/passenger, to R150 to international destinations.

It will cost a little less to fly to Southern African Customs Union, with that figure set to increase from R60 to R80.

This tax, said National Treasury, was last raised in the 2005/2006 financial year.
